The jury has to decide. Was it self-defense or an execution by spouse?

In this case, I believe the defendant left his wife in the kitchen, went and got a gun, returned, and shot his wife eight times.
If this is correct, I find it hard to see this as self-defense, regardless of her posture, or whatever else she was doing when she was shot.
