The chemist refused to admit error. I showed the GC charts to a group of 23 assembled fire debris chemists at AAFS last year. Nobody could see gasoline in the charts. The “expert panel” was convened only after the chemist retired. In my opinion, this was a case of a person who thought it was her job to help the prosecutor.
The fact that some crime labs and examiners are pro prosecution is still ignored by many “idealists” in certain orgs. Your AAFS group thankfully is not one of them. My group, however, is still mute on the subject but is begging the TX Forensic Commission for a reprieve. How ironic, eh? Asking to be exonerated for past “bad apples.”
